Impaired Driving by Drug and Weapons Offences
On January 23rd at 5:56pm officers received a call for service concerning a dispute at a Port Elgin residence that had escalated.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered that a man allegedly threatened and assaulted another man with weapon.
Officers located the suspect as he was leaving the area in a vehicle. The male was placed under arrest. Officers formed the grounds that the male was operating a motor vehicle and was impaired by a drug. A search of the vehicle resulted in officers seizing brass knuckles, which are a prohibited weapon under the Criminal Code.
He was transported to the police station where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition expert. The result of the evaluation was a fail.
A Port Elgin man has been charged with:
- Uttering threats
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Operation of a vehicle while impaired by drug
- Failure to comply with a release order
His vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days. He was released with a court date.
Theft, Drugs and Weapons Offences
On January 23rd an officer was driving on Goderich Street on general patrol and observed a male that he knew was wanted for shoplifting from a store in Saugeen Shores.
The officer stopped and arrested the male. A search of the male revealed a quantity of suspected purple fentanyl and spring loaded knife, which is a prohibited weapon.
A Port Elgin man has been charged with:
- Theft under $5000 (shoplifting)
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Failure to comply with a release order
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance (opioid)
He was release with a court date.
