Motor Vehicle Collision – Dangerous Driving and Refusal to Provide Sample

On June 16th at approximately 3:00pm a motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Goderich Street and Tomlinson Drive.

A woman was driving her vehicle north on Goderich Street. The vehicle was travelling at high rate of speed.  As the vehicle was approaching the intersection it struck the rear of the another vehicle that was also proceeding north on Goderich Street.

The force of the collision forced the vehicle that was struck to spin out of control into on-coming traffic in the south bound lanes.  The driver of the speeding vehicle continued to drive her heavily damaged car for almost 200 metres away from the collision scene.

Moments later police, fire and paramedics arrived on scene to assess the situation. The woman driving the speeding vehicle was trapped due to the extension damage.  Saugeen Shores Fire Department needed to deploy hydraulic cutters “jaws of life” to free the woman from her vehicle.

Once freed the woman was placed under arrest for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The woman was transported to the hospital by paramedics for an assessment. While the hospital for an assessment.

Officers formed the opinion that the woman had consumed alcoholic beverages.  A roadside demand for a breath sample was made. The woman refused to take the test.

A 39 year old Port Elgin woman has been charged with:

  1. Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  2. Refusal to comply with a demand (breath)

The woman was released with court in addition to have her licence administratively suspended for 90 days. She received minor injures.
