Media Release – Stolen Vehicle, Resist Officer and Possession of a Weapon

On January 13th at 5pm an officer on general patrol observed a suspicious vehicle on Arlington Street in Port Elgin.  The vehicle was running with a male seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.  The male appeared to be unconscious.

A check of the vehicle, a 2020 Dodge Ram, revealed that it has been reported stolen from a car rental company in Owen Sound.

The officer woke up the male, who refused to exit the locked vehicle.  Eventually the officer opened the door and attempted to remove the male from the vehicle.  The male resisted officers attempts to remove him.  A struggle ensued and the male was removed from the vehicle and restrained.

A search of the vehicle revealed a concealed weapon stored in a manner that was dangerous to the public.

A 30 year old man with no fixed address has been charged with:

  1. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 - Sc. 354(1)(a) CC
  2. Resist Peace Officer - Sc. 129(a) CC
  3. Possession of Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace - Sc. 88 CC

He was released with a court date.
