Impaired Driver Hits Pedestrian In Southampton

Media Release – Pedestrian Struck Collision, Driver Arrested

On August 14th at 4:22 pm officers responded to a pedestrian struck personal injury collision on Huron Street in Southampton.

A 62 year old female was crossing the road when a vehicle failed to yield and struck her. She fell to the ground and sustained cuts to her arms and head.

When officers arrived on scene to investigate they detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage on the breath of the driver.  An officer made a roadside breath demand.  A test was administered resulting in a fail.

The driver was arrested and transported to the police station for further investigation.  Two breath samples were given to an Intoxilyzer technician resulting in a fail.

A 67 year old Saugeen Shores woman has been charged with:

  1. Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  2. Dangerous Driving

 

She was released with a court date, her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The pedestrian was released from the hospital after being treated for her injuries.
