Impaired Driving - Alcohol
On July 20th at 7:06pm police received a call concerning an intoxicated male passed out at the wheel of his vehicle. The vehicle was parked on the side of the road near the intersection of Concession 4 and Bruce Road 33.
An officer arrived on scene and located an intoxicated male walking away from his vehicle. The officer spoke to the male observed a strong odour of alcohol, slurred speech and unsteadiness on his feet.
The male was placed under arrest for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was transported to the police station where he provided samples of his breath to an Intoxilyzer technician. He registered readings over 200 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millitres of blood.
A 36 year old Guelph man has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a)
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)
He was released with a court date.
Impaired Driving - Drugs
On July 21st at 8:17am police were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision near the Canadian Tire Gas bar in Port Elgin.
A male driver fell unconscious in the Tim Hortons drive through and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle accelerated out of the drive through down a small hill, over landscaping rock and finally stopping on a boulevard at the Canadian Tire Gas bar.
Officers arrived on scene and located a male in the driver’s seat who was unresponsive. An officer had to deploy a dose of Naloxone, used for opioid overdoses, in an attempt to revive him. Paramedics arrived on scene and the male eventually regained consciousness. He was transported to the hospital .
Officers attended the hospital and arrested the male for Operation while impaired – drugs. He was treated by medical staff and released from hospital.
A 34 year old Port Elgin man has been charged with:
- Operation While Impaired Sec 320.14(1) CC – Drugs
He was released with a court date.
