January 4, 2019

Media Release – Impaired Driving

On January 3rd, 2019 at 2:20am an officer was on patrol on Goderich St in Port Elgin and observed a vehicle being driven in a suspicious manner.

The officer stopped the vehicle at a local hotel and spoke to the driver who verbally identified himself.  During the conversation the officer detected signs that the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage.  A roadside test was administered which the driver failed.  He was placed under arrest and taken to the station for an Intoxilyzer Breath Test.

At the station the male failed the test.  Further investigation revealed that the driver provided a false name to the officer and he was under a driving suspension dating back to 2006.

A 35 year old Oshawa man has been charged with:

  1. Driving with Over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood
  2. Obstruct Police – provide false name
  3. Driving while under suspension – Highway Traffic Act

The male’s driver’s licence has been suspended again administratively for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
