Impaired by drug arrest

On Sunday, September 16th, 2018 at 1:00pm members of the Saugeen Shores Police Service assisted the Ontario Provincial Police concerning a report of a suspected impaired driver on Highway 21. As officers were searching for the vehicle, a second call from the public reported that the vehicle was being operated in a dangerous manner. The vehicle was observed crossing into oncoming traffic, forcing other motorists to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
With assistance from witnesses, officers located the vehicle parked in the Giant Tiger parking lot in Port Elgin. The driver was arrested and transported to the station.
A Drug Recognition Expert conducted tests on the man and as a result he has been charged with:
• Driving while ability impaired – drug
• Possession of a schedule one substance – fentanyl.
The 22 year old Georgian Bluffs man was released with a court date.
